It is none other than its thriving fishing community that will give you the authentic flavour of a traditional fishing village. Catamaran-style boats setting out to sea, casted fishing nets, generations-old fishing techniques are very common sights surrounding this coastal area. Engaging in conversations and interactive activities with them such as talking about their traditions and indulging in local seafood recipes will give you glimpses into a slice of their life. Negombo is also renowned for its rich cultural heritage in which its timeless elegance and colonial charms are thriving. One of the most notable colonial remnants is the Dutch Fort or Negombo Fort which was built by Portuguese and later fortified by the Dutch. Negombo Fort stands as a testament to our colonial past, even though most of the original layout has been decayed over time.
